History

In May of 1985, Brother Gale Matthew Collins, Basileus Emeritus, Founder of Tau Gamma Gamma
Chapter (TGG), committed to the pleasurable undertakings to establish a Graduate Chapter of Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. With his perseverance, untiring energy and
enthusiasm he was able to accomplish the goal. He was assisted by Major (Brother) Milton J. Cross. The
chartering of TGG was strongly contested and it took over two years to complete. Tau Gamma Gamma
has a very unique history that came into being as a result of Brothers who shared the same high ideals
and aspirations. Brothers who strived to make things better for mankind and above all whose lives were
deeply entrenched in the four cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift. On
October 2, 1986 an application was applied for and sent to the Supreme Council, Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Incorporated International Headquarters to obtain chapter status.

Chartered Brothers are Gale M. Collins, Milton J. Cross, James T. Curry (Omega Chapter), Darryl
Bennett, Ronald W. Adams, Herbert N. Charity, Webster M. Fisher, Ronald K. Gillard (Omega Chapter),
Floyd E. Hudson, Jr., Robert L. Manning, Keith M. Owens, Wilber A. Parker, Darrell A. Todd, Herbert L.
Townes, Roy Tucker, Jr., Reginald Thomas, Keith Barnes, Sturgis Stokes, Darrell Powe, Michael Sutton
(Omega Chapter) and Darren A. Young.

The chapter was chartered by the Supreme Council, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated on
December 6, 1987. Upon receiving our charter, the chapter immediately began to set the example for
others to follow. On Saturday evening February 20, 1988 the Mass unfolded at 2000 hours in the Main
Officers’ and Civilians Club, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Dedication of the Chapter Charter Ceremonies
was conducted by the Sixth District Representative Brother William H. Hoffer. Brother C. Tyrone Gilmore,
First Vice Grand Basileus delivered the key not address for the new chartered three Greek letter graduate
chapter Tau Gamma Gamma (TGG), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The charter line was Spring 1988 “New Wave” and it consisted of Brothers Herman Williams, Robert Bell,
Martin Torrance, Joseph Shaw, Levertice Boyd, Steve Coles, Lorenzo Mack, Johnny Pierce, Michael
Bowers, Troy Graham, Robert Daniels and David Holliday.

The second line was Fall 1988 “The Twilight Zone Five” and it consisted of Brothers Samuel Farmer,
James Blackmon, Carlos Potts, Williams Sanders and Robert Wilson.

We celebrate the history of our chapter each year with an anniversary called Achievement Week. This is
a mandated program from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. We also participate in the Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated and the Mighty Sixth District (State of North Carolina and South Carolina)
mandated programs such as annual can good drives during Thanksgiving and Christmas, toys for tots
drive during the Christmas season, Brother Charles R. Drew Annual Blood Drive, Youth Sports Programs,
Adopt-A-Highway, Mentoring Programs at the local schools, Classical Talent Hunts for High School
students, High School Essay Contest, 5k Run and Walk which highlights health issues (Breast Cancer,
Cancer, Diabetes, Sickle-A-Cell, Hypertension, and Heart Disease) in our communities, sending young
boys ages 8-14 to summer camp, Assault on Literacy Programs (Father and Son Book Club), organize or
participate in the observance of African American History Month, the chapter has a life membership status
with the National Advancement Association for Colored People (NAACP), and Brothers provide monthly
donations to United Negro College Funds (UNCF), holds Voter Registration Drives, serve Military Families
affected by the War, participate in Habitat for Humanity Projects, juvenile detention visit and we are proud
of our track record of supporting deserving high school seniors by defraying the cost of college by
providing scholarships.

The Brothers in this chapter are Commissioned Officers, Commissioned Warrant Officers,
Noncommissioned Officers and Civilians. They are on call for the world and the nation and can be
deployed at a moments notice. The chapter is known throughout the world as the Home of the “Airborne
Ques!” The Brother who displays excellent leadership in the fraternity and military is awarded the Colonel
(Brother) Charles Young Military Leadership Award yearly and can compete at the District and
International for this award (this award was recommended by TGG to the Sixth District and International
(approved at the Grand Conclave in Saint Louis, 2004). In addition, Brothers can be awarded the four
other major Fraternity awards which are Omega Man of the Year, Founders Award, Superior Service
Award and Citizens of the Year. Furthermore, the chapter competes yearly for the Graduate Chapter of
the Year (GCOTY) Award at the Sixth District and International levels. The chapter was named the
GGOTY for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. 2004. The chapter was honored and blessed with the GCOTY
Award in 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 1997 for the Sixth District. Also, the chapter was awarded the first
ever Social Action Chapter of the Year 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 for the Sixth District. The chapter was
awarded one of two of the first Reclamation Chapter of the Year Awards in 2006 for the Sixth District. The
chapter’s first Graduate Omega Man of the Year for the Sixth District was Brother Conrado B. Morgan,
2005 and the Colonel Charles Young Military Leadership Award, 2006. The chapter’s first Colonel Charles
Young Military Leadership Award winner for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was Brother Conrado B.
Morgan. Furthermore, the chapter also established its first Scholarship Endowment Account in 2006 to
honor Brothers of the past, present and future. A large donation was made to the Scholarship Endowment
Account in honor of Brother Herbert L. Townes in March of 2006. Last, the chapter established a 501 (c)
(3) foundation on July 27, 2007. The foundation is named Omegas of MSPU Foundation, Inc and it is a
separate organization from the chapter.

The chapter celebrated its 20th Anniversary during the entire year of 2007. The main celebration was the
20th Anniversary Achievement Week Banquet held at Fort Bragg Officer’s Club on November 17, 2007
where General (Brother) William E. “Kip” Ward Commanding General, Africa Command gave the keynote
address, where Lieutenant General Lloyd J. Austin, III, Commanding General XVIII Airborne Command
and Fort Bragg, North Carolina gave the welcome remarks on behalf of Fort Bragg and where Brother
Burnel E. Coulon, 31st Grand Basileus became a honorary Brother of Tau Gamma Gamma Chapter for
life. In addition, the chapter was given a proclamation by the Mayor for the City of Fayetteville
proclaiming Tau Gamma Gamma Day in Fayetteville, North Carolina on December 6, 2007.

Furthermore, the chapter was given a Resolution by Brother Warren G. Lee, Jr. 38th Grand Basileus, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity proclaiming Tau Gamma Gamma Day in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. December 6, 2007.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. presented the Colonel Charles Young Leadership Award to Colonel
(Brother) Conrado B. Morgan for outstanding leadership and service to the members of the Armed Forces
and to the Fraternity at the 75th Grand Conclave in Birmingham, Alabama on July 17, 2008 for the first
time ever for a Brother of Tau Gamma Gamma Chapter.
The chapter celebrated its 21st Anniversary during the entire year of 2008. The 21st Anniversary Annual
Achievement Week Banquet was held at the Fort Bragg Officers’ Club on November 15, 2008 where
Brother Charles A. Bruce, Former Grand Keeper of Records and Seal gave the keynote address.
Whereas, Brother Jack Martin (Basilues OY 2007-2009) lead the efforts in coordinating and executing an
exciting Achievement Week Banquet. Our talent hunt winner and the young men TGG sponsored for
Boys Camp preformed at the banquet.

The chapter celebrated its 22th Anniversary during the entire year of 2009. The 22th Anniversary Annual
Achievement Week Banquet held at Fort Bragg Officers’ Club on November 20, 2009 where Brother Carl
A. Blunt, First Vice Grand Basileus gave the keynote address and where Brother Carl A. Blunt became a
honorary Brother of Tau Gamma Gamma Chapter for life. Whereas, Brother Jack Martin (Basilues OY
2007-2009) and Brother Richard L. Nash (Basileus OY 2010) lead the efforts in coordinating and
executing a stellar Achievement Week Banquet. The essay contest winner for the chapter and the Sixth
District and the young men TGG sponsored for Boys Camp preformed at the banquet.

Long Live Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated and may the light of Omega continue to shine on Tau
Gamma Gamma Chapter.
